We found these in an under-stairs room with a large collection of signs. Owner had cut these signs to fit the bottom of the stairs as decor pieces, that is why they are in the boneyard. Each is an original 1930's era sign, in great condition otherwise. Texaco only produced these for a very brief stint, because the term they coined ("Furfural'd Film") disturbed Americans when Hitler came into power at the start of WW2, and this name along with the guy on sign having his arm up in a vague resemblance of the nazi salute. This caused Texaco to cancel the furfural'd ad campaign, making these signs rare.

About The Texaco Furfural Compund

Furfural is an organic compound with the formula C4H3OCHO. It is a colorless liquid, although commercial samples are often amber. It consists of a formyl group attached to the 2-position of furan. It is a product of the dehydration of sugars, as occur in a variety of agricultural byproducts, including corncobs, oat, wheat bran, and sawdust. The name furfural comes from the Latin word furfur, meaning bran, referring to its usual source. Aside from ethanol, acetic acid and sugar it is one of the oldest renewable chemicals. It is also found in many processed foods and beverages.

We often buy entire collections, and sometimes in these collections are items that have collectible value, but don't quite merit a museum quality restoration. For example, items that are post 1970 will often be found in the Bone Yard. If you are looking for hard to find parts, or a fully restored pump is not quite in your budget, then have a look in our vintage Americana and petroliana bone yard.
