Classic Bob’s Big Boy Restaurant Display – BBR4920

When It Feels Like 1965—and the Happy Days Never Ended

This Bob’s Big Boy storefront began the way many great ArtFactory.com projects begin: with a pencil drawing, a conversation, and plenty of hand-waving to describe the feeling the finished experience should create.

Drawing upon his personal Route 66 experiences and a lifetime of architectural, engineering, artistic, and master-building knowledge, H.J. Nick designed this complete diner setting around the genuine vintage artifacts preserved in our inventory.

Instead of displaying a Big Boy statue and advertising pieces against an ordinary wall, H.J. Nick created the architectural surroundings needed to bring them back to life.

Description

Roll It Directly in Front of Your Kitchen

Because the entire display is constructed on a concealed rolling platform, it can be positioned directly in front of your existing kitchen, outdoor cooking area, or private entertainment space.

Fire up the grill behind it, put the hamburgers on, and let the smell of fresh burgers and French fries drift through the diner entrance. With the neon glowing, the original Big Boy standing out front, period music playing, and your era-correct automobiles parked alongside it, very little is left to the imagination.

For that moment, you are no longer standing inside a modern building.

You have stepped back into 1965 — when cruising was an event, the local drive-in was the neighborhood gathering place, and the happy days felt as though they would never end.

Add a 1957 Chevrolet, a Corvette, a Ford Thunderbird or Mustang, or another automobile from the period, and the entire area becomes a complete mid-century American streetscape. Your cars and artifacts are no longer isolated collectibles; they become part of a living story that your family and guests can walk into, enjoy, photograph, and remember.

The Complete Architectural Buildout

The Bob’s Big Boy experience is traditionally constructed on a heavy-duty rolling platform measuring approximately 10 feet wide by 5 feet deep and 8 inches thick.

Hidden commercial-grade wheels allow the complete display to be repositioned while preserving the appearance of a permanent architectural installation. The rolling system, structural framework, electrical connections, and other modern necessities are carefully concealed from normal view.

The buildout includes:

  • A traditionally framed and structurally reinforced storefront wall
  • Era-correct porcelain diner wall panels
  • Red-and-white checkerboard architectural trim
  • A commercial-style aluminum-and-glass entrance with matching sidelights
  • A dimensional interior diner scene that creates the appearance of a complete restaurant beyond the doors
  • An illuminated “Burgers • Fries • Milk Shakes” marquee
  • A glowing “Come In and Stay Awhile” neon sign
  • Period-style exterior lanterns
  • Custom electrical wiring concealed within the structure
  • A genuine vintage Bob’s Big Boy statue displayed on a raised pedestal
  • A freestanding illuminated Big Boy welcome display
  • Custom-fabricated planters, landscaping details, trim, and finished platform edges
  • A durable, professionally finished 8-inch-thick rolling base designed to conceal its wheels and visually disappear beneath the completed scene

Every detail is composed to work together. The scale of the entrance, the position of the statue, the lighting, the advertising, the porcelain panels, and the view into the diner are all arranged to create the illusion of a real mid-century restaurant.

Designed Around Genuine Artifacts

The centerpiece is a genuine vintage Bob’s Big Boy statue, joined by authentic and period-correct advertising and illuminated display pieces.

At ArtFactory.com, we do not force important artifacts into a generic structure. We design the architecture around the artifacts, giving each piece the proper scale, position, lighting, and historical context it deserves.

The result is not a collection of unrelated objects. It is one unified American experience.

Built as a Plug-and-Play Installation

The complete storefront can be fully assembled, wired, illuminated, detailed, and tested at ArtFactory.com before delivery. Its electrical system can be organized into concealed plug-and-play connections for straightforward installation within your building.

Once positioned, connect the power, turn on the neon and lights, bring out the automobiles, and start cooking.

The display can be used as:

The entrance to an existing kitchen or entertainment area

A backdrop for a private automobile collection

  • A centerpiece within a man cave or American Dream showroom
  • A museum-quality presentation of vintage restaurant artifacts
  • A themed dining and party space
  • A photographic setting for family gatherings and special events
  • One section of a larger Route 66 streetscape containing multiple rolling storefronts
  • Your Collection Becomes a Place in Time
  • Just as we created this Bob’s Big Boy diner and our Sinclair service-station experience, ArtFactory.com can design a complete setting around the genuine artifacts in your collection—or select the appropriate pieces from our extensive inventory.

We can begin with detailed architectural drawings, historic photographs, a rough pencil sketch, a Crayola drawing, or simply your ideas explained through conversation and hand movements.

H.J. Nick and the ArtFactory.com masters take those ideas and turn them into a structurally sound, historically convincing, fully engineered, and completely buildable environment.

This is not simply a rolling display. It is a doorway into another time — where the neon is glowing, the hamburgers are on the grill, the classic cars are waiting outside, and it feels like 1965 all over again.
