Richlube Neon Sign: Classic Americana from the Golden Age of Gas Stations
Richlube was a trade name associated with Richfield Oil Corporation, a major player in the American petroleum industry during the early-to-mid 20th century. Richfield marketed its Richlube motor oil and lubrication services primarily in the 1930s to 1950s. Signs like this were displayed at Richfield gas stations and auto service garages, promoting their all-in-one lubrication services during the golden age of roadside service.
“All-Point Lubrication” referred to comprehensive servicing — lubricating every essential moving part of a vehicle, a big selling point before modern maintenance intervals.
This style of neon sign is indicative of mid-century Americana, and would have been hand-crafted with glass tube neon and a porcelain or steel background.
