Breyers was founded in 1866 in Philadelphia by William Breyer, who started by hand-cranking ice cream and selling it locally. He opened his first retail ice cream shop in 1882.
Later, Breyers was incorporated in 1908 and eventually became a division of National Dairy Products.

But I didn’t always have the money for both comfort and distance. If I had a nickel, I could get that scoop and cone—yet sometimes it came down to a choice: ice cream, or a little more gas for the old jalopy so I could keep rolling toward whatever was next. Funny how a decision that small can stay with you for a lifetime.
Now today, this sign brings it all back in one glance—the romance of the open road, the glow of Main Street, and that early belief that if you kept going, you’d find your place. To me, it isn’t just a Breyers sign. It’s a memory of America at its best… and a reminder of the pursuit of the American Dream, the way my eyes first learned to see it—lit up from the road, warm in the dark, and full of promise.
