Description
Perfection Oil Tin Sign: Vintage 1920's "Heating, Lighting, Cooking"
This vintage Perfection Oil tin sign is an original cardboard backed, tin litho advertisement from the 1920's. This sign is horizontally oriented, and rectangular in shape, has a primarily red background, with a white border, and Art Deco style illustrations. It is a full color sign, that reads "Perfection Oil" at the top, and "Heating, Lighting, Cooking" at the bottom, both in white lettering with a red shadow. The slogan "Better than the kid that you thought the best" is in light blue lettering just below the words "Perfection Oil". The word "Brilliant" is vertically down the left side of the sign, and the word "Odorless" is vertically down the right side of the sign, both in yellow lettering with a navy blue shadow. In the center of the sign are 3 illustrations, above each of the words "Heating, Lighting, and Cooking" to illustrate each of the 3 uses for the oil. It is a single sided sign that measures 19 inches wide by 13 inches tall. It is an ideal size for display as it is large enough to be eye catching, but small enough to not take up too much of your wall space. It is in original, unrestored condition, as pictured, and definitely shows its age, with quite a bit of rusting around the edges, and fading to the sign overall, but is still a very nice example of a now 100-years-old sign. We sell all of our original petroliana advertising in unrestored condition because it is our belief that each blemish is part of the unique history of that item.

History Of The Perfection Stove Company (Excerpted From MilesStair.com)
In 1888, Henry Parsons Crowell was approached by Frank Drury to build, and market, a 'lamp stove'. The two men discussed the practicability of such an item. A patent was applied for; the Cleveland Foundry Company began building and then selling the stove. The 'Perfection Stove Company' was born.
In 1888 the Cleveland Foundry Company was formed. They manufactured a line of oil lamp stoves, along with many lamp companies such as Bradley & Hubbard and Miller. In 1894, the plant started producing portable heaters. These heaters used the "store lamp" wick that had been standardized by Rochester in 1884. In 1901 Francis Drury approached John D. Rockefeller of Cleveland owner of Standard Oil Company.
