REDDY KILOWATT – HISTORY & SIGNIFICANCE
Reddy Kilowatt is one of the most iconic American advertising characters of the 20th century.
Created in 1926 by Ashton B. Collins Sr. for the Alabama Power Company, Reddy became the nationwide symbol of the electric utility industry. For over 70 years he appeared on:

- Billboards

- Appliances, manuals & promotional products
ROAD STORY / PROVENANCE
This sign came out of a defunct mid-century appliance storefront in the American Midwest ). It was acquired in distressed condition—flaking paint, darkened tubes, brittle wiring, and inactive transformer.
H.J. Nick restored it back to beyond original working condition, using historically correct processes that preserve museum and collector value while ensuring safe daily operation.

By the 1940s–1960s, neon signage featuring Reddy became standard décor for electrical supply houses, power company customer-service lobbies, and mid-century appliance stores.
This sign represents the rare “Mighty Atom” a circular neon face portrait, produced in very limited numbers during the late 1940s–early 1950s. These single-face round neon versions were high-end dealer signs and were almost always destroyed when utility companies updated branding.
