Preservation Story
This sign has been faithfully preserved, not cosmetically restored — its original porcelain enamel face remains untouched, showcasing every chip, scratch, and patina mark earned through decades of service.
While the body of the sign was too far gone — the original galvanized can having suffered severe corrosion and rodent damage over time — master builder H.J. Nick commissioned a new steel can housing, fabricated and finished like the body of a classic American car. The new can ensures long-term protection and structural integrity, while remaining true to the form and materials of the original design.
