Vintage Hood Tires Neon Sign: Original Collectible Automobilia
This original vintage Hood Tires neon sign is just one of hundreds of collectible automobilia and petroliana collectibles currently for sale from ArtFactory.com. This large, single sided, round, porcelain enamel sign measures 60 inches wide, by 20 inches tall, and is on a 7 inch deep metal can. It is an original authorized Hood Tire and Tube dealer advertisement from the 1920's. This sign has a black background with a yellow stripe that goes across the sign diagonally, starting in the lower left corner and going up to the upper right corner. In the center of the yellow stripe is a white arrow with a red outline, pointing in both directions, and the word "HOOD" in the middle of the arrow in black lettering, with an arrow going through the word. The word "Tires" is in yellow lettering in the upper, left area of the sign, and "Tubes", also in yellow lettering in the lower right area of the sign. The sign lights up with yellow neon around the words "Tires" and "Tubes" and around the border of the yellow stripe. It lights up in white neon around the border of the arrow, and in red neon, also around the border of the arrow, crossing over the white neon, and the word "Hood" and the arrow through the word also light up in red neon.

Hood Rubber Company History
USMC outsole presser located at end of delivery conveyor. Frederic and Arthur Hood, trained under their father and after the U.S. Rubber Co. failed in Franklin and Chelsea, MA, founded a factory in 1896 in East Watertown. During the early years, Hood hired many immigrant Armenians and was mainly responsible for the development of East Watertown into an Armenian neighborhood. Hood had its own auxiliary fire department and alarm system. It took half an hour to cover hood's 88 acres. By 1920, the company employed ten thousand men and women.
