This rare, vintage neon Reddy Kilowatt sign is an original collectible power company advertisement for Ohio Power and Light Company. The classic sign is 4 feet tall by 2 feet wide in total, and is a porcelain sign with neon on a 5 inch deep metal can. It has a white background, with blue and red lettering and red and white neon lighting. These signs were used by Electric and Power Companies throughout the U.S. for over 70 years and this one dates to the 1940's-1950's era. The sign is in excellent condition for a sign of its age as pictured. Like all of our vintage collectible signs, it is in original, unrestored condition. However, all neon, ALL SOLID STATE TRANSFORMERS and electrical parts have been fully rebuilt or replaced by our experts. The neon features a separate on/off toggle.

Commercially viable AC generating stations had begun powering North American streets and homes by the end of the 19th century. By the mid-1920s electric utilities had succeeded in bringing electricity to virtually all major cities and towns in North America; however, rural areas remained chronically underserved. In 1930 almost 90 percent of farms in the United States were still without access to electric service.
