Description
1934 Coca-Cola “Drug Store”
This is an authentic 1934 Coca-Cola “DRUG STORE – Delicious and Refreshing” porcelain enamel neon sign, manufactured by Terry Enamel Mfg. Co., New York and stamped “MADE IN U.S.A. 1934” on the lower left edge. These early illuminated Coca-Cola dealer signs were the premium advertising standard of the 1930s, used in pharmacies, soda fountains, and commercial storefronts along America’s growing highway system.
The piece features brilliant Coca-Cola red porcelain enamel, the classic white script logo, a green “DRUG STORE” header, and the slogan “Delicious and Refreshing.” Its neon border—professionally restored with historically-correct color tubes—displays exactly as it did in the mid-1930s when Coca-Cola electrified its advertising presence across the country.

HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE
This model represents Coca-Cola’s transition from simple tin advertising to high-quality porcelain enamel and neon illumination, marking its investment in premium dealer signage during the Art Deco era. These signs were placed in high-traffic commercial spaces, especially pharmacies and soda fountains—the very businesses that helped Coca-Cola become a national brand.
Only a small number of these 1930s neon porcelain examples survived, making authenticated specimens of this quality exceptionally rare.
PROVENANCE – Tucumcari, New Mexico (Route 66)
This sign was discovered by H.J. Nick during a preservation expedition in Tucumcari, New Mexico, one of the most iconic surviving towns on Historic Route 66. Tucumcari was a major stopover for travelers from the 1930s–1950s, home to the Southwest’s most photographed neon districts, classic motor lodges, and Main Street storefronts.
The sign was found stored inside an early 20th-century Route 66 drug store that had long been shuttered. Because it had been kept indoors—rather than exposed to sun, wind, and fuel vapors—the porcelain retained unusually strong color and legibility. H.J. Nick secured the piece and transported it to ArtFactory.com's Scottsdale conservation studio, where it was documented and archived into the Historic American Roads Collection.
This provenance places the artifact directly within the golden age of American roadside commerce and Route 66 neon culture.
