A rare original Colonial Breads sign from the Colonial Bakery. This vintage sign is bread loaf shaped metal advertisement that reads "Colonial is good Bread" in white with "Colonial" in yellow on a blue background. The wording "Enriched Bread" is featured on the top and bottom of this antique sign in red. The bread loaf bag shaped sign is in white with red, yellow, and blue accent colors. Antique Colonial Bread sign from the Colonial Baking Company, founded in 1928 by Carl Skogsberg in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. By 1929 Skogsberg was joined by Winfield Campbell and A.L. Taggart and together oversaw nineteen bakeries that produced the brands of Colonial, Holsum, Betsy Ross, and Rainbo. In 1958 they changed their bread recipe and their name to Rainbo. In the mid-1970s they introduced the Earthgrains line which eventually became their business name. Earthgrains was acquired in 1982 by the Anheuser-Busch company, and then by Sara Lee in 2001 the current owner.
