Authentic mid-century Derby Oil Company service-station sign featuring the classic red field, white star, and blue DERBY band. Salvaged during the rebranding that followed Derby’s absorption by Conoco in 1972, this piece represents the independent oil era and the golden age of American roadside design.
Founded in the early 20th century, Derby Oil operated throughout the Midwest—especially Kansas, Nebraska, and Colorado. Its bold star mark served as a highway beacon for travelers on U.S. routes and small-town main streets. When corporate consolidation swept through the industry, Derby stations were converted and the original porcelain emblems were removed, leaving surviving examples scarce and highly collectible among petroliana enthusiasts.
