Like all of our collectible signs, this vintage Chevrolet Service neon sign is sold in original, unrestored condition as pictured. We do not believe in restoring old signs because it is our belief that every ding, dent, and blemish is part of the story and history of the item. Often times, the only exception will be a 101 point, museum quality neon and electrical restoration, which is done under the supervision of award winning artist H.J. Nick. However, once in awhile we are able to find a sign such as this Chevrolet Service neon sign that is in what is called "SURVIVOR CONDITION", meaning fully original, including original working neon and electrical. These "SURVIVOR CONDITION" items are by far the rarest, most valuable, and most highly collector coveted. In other words, this Chevrolet Service neon sign is a truly rare find in this condition, and to top it all off, is a one-of-a-kind item that was displayed in a west coast Chevy dealership for many years, beginning in the 1940's.

Chevrolet Dealership Service History

Vintage 1949 Chevy Sales Service Neon Sign

In the early years of Chevrolet, service and repairs were typically handled by local garages and mechanics. As Chevrolet's popularity soared, dealerships began to emerge, offering sales, service, and parts under one roof.

The history of Chevrolet dealership service traces back to the early days of Chevrolet itself. When Chevrolet was founded in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant, it quickly grew into one of America's leading automotive brands. As Chevrolet vehicles became more widespread, the need for reliable service and maintenance became evident. Here's a brief overview of the evolution of Chevrolet dealership service:

  1. Early Years (1910s-1920s): In the early years of Chevrolet, service and repairs were typically handled by local garages and mechanics. As Chevrolet's popularity soared, dealerships began to emerge, offering sales, service, and parts under one roof.
  2. Expansion and Standardization (1930s-1940s): During the 1930s and 1940s, Chevrolet dealerships became more standardized in their service offerings. With the rise of mass production techniques, Chevrolet could produce vehicles in greater numbers, necessitating a more organized approach to service and maintenance. Dealerships began to offer comprehensive service departments staffed with trained technicians.
  3. Post-War Boom (1950s-1960s): The post-World War II era saw a tremendous boom in car ownership, and Chevrolet dealerships played a crucial role in providing service to the growing number of Chevrolet owners. This period saw advancements in automotive technology, prompting dealerships to invest in training programs for their service technicians to keep pace with evolving vehicle designs.
  4. Modernization and Specialization (1970s-Present): As technology continued to advance, Chevrolet dealerships embraced modern diagnostic tools and equipment to service increasingly complex vehicles. The 1970s and beyond saw a trend towards specialization within dealership service departments, with technicians trained to handle specific systems such as engines, transmissions, and electronics.
  5. Customer Service Focus: In recent decades, Chevrolet dealerships have placed greater emphasis on customer service and satisfaction. This includes offering amenities such as comfortable waiting areas, shuttle services, and loaner vehicles, as well as implementing quality assurance programs to ensure that customers receive reliable and efficient service.
  6. Online Services and Digitalization: With the advent of the internet and digital technology, Chevrolet dealerships have expanded their service offerings to include online appointment scheduling, virtual diagnostics, and remote vehicle monitoring. This allows customers greater convenience and flexibility when it comes to servicing their vehicles.
