Dixcel Gasoline Neon Sign: Rare Vintage Milton Oil Co. Petroliana
This vintage Dixcel Gasoline neon sign is original storefront advertising, and is a single sided, round, porcelain enamel sign. The sign is not dated, but this was a very limited brand that was only available in the 1920's-1930's, and primarily only in Louisiana and Texas. This Dixcel Gasoline neon sign is an incredibly rare item due to the fact that this brand had a very limited area of distribution, and was only in existence for just over a 10 years, and went out of business nearly a century ago. It is an extra large sign, measuring 42 inches in diameter (Total Weight 71 Pounds) making it a centerpiece sized item. It has an orange background with black lettering and is a 3 color sign. It reads "Milton Oil Co./Dixcel Gasoline" with all of the words except for "Dixcel" are in black lettering, and the word "Dixcel" is in the very center of the sign in large white lettering, with a horizontal black stripe going across the center of the sign to provide the background for the white lettering. The sign lights up in orange neon around the border of the sign, and at the top and bottom edges of the stripe in the center of the sign. The word "Dixcel" lights up in white neon.
Like all of our collectible advertising signs, this vintage Dixcel Gasoline neon sign is an authentic, collectible gasoline advertisement, and sold in original, unrestored condition. We do not believe in restoring damaged porcelain on vintage signs, because it is our belief that any blemishes are part of the story and history of the item. This Dixcel Gasoline neon sign is in Excellent (EXL) condition overall, and is an extremely nice example of what is now an over 90-year-old sign. There are only two areas of notable damage, with a medium sized ding just below the letter "C" in "Dixcel", and and small cluster of dings to the left of the letter "M" in "Milton". Otherwise the sign face is exceptionally clean, especially given the advanced age of this sign. The back of the sign shows its age, as pictured. This sign is an outstanding investment due to its unique scarcity, and the fact that it is on the doorstep of becoming a true, over 100-year-old antique item, and its value is sure to grow exponentially over the next decade. You will not want to miss your chance at owning this item, because it is unlikely that we will ever have this sign in stock again, particularly in this condition, and as signs like this in general become more and more rare because fewer people are letting them out of their personal collections.

As stated above, we do not believe in restoring damage to porcelain enamel or vintage tin litho signs because; there is both no way of restoring this type of damage in a manner that would be consistent with a museum quality restoration, often times doing more harm than good and; it is our belief, and the prevailing belief among museum curators and experienced collectors alike that any ding, dent, or blemish is part of that item's unique history. The only exception to the rule is when dealing with neon and electrical components, which is why this sign has been given a 101 point, museum quality neon restoration, which is done under the supervision of, certified, and signed by award winning artist H.J. Nick as meeting all world class fine are qualifications.
