This is an original restored Flying A visible gas pump, model 117, nicknamed 'Mae West". This vintage gas pump is the guarantee fry visible pump circa 1920s and features the patented Fry accurate measuring mechanism from Guarantee Liquid Measure Company with the up and down working measuring tube, measuring stop control handle, tinted blue glass cylinder, and rare price box.
This vintage Flying A gasoline pump features a Flying A globe. The original milk glass globe (17" x 6") features two 13 1/2" Flying A milk glass inserts. This Flying A gas globe logo with a white background, Flying A Gasoline in red font, A with wings logo in red design was used by the Tidewater Oil Company in the 1920s to 1960s. All parts of this antique gas pump are historically correct and original, and are in full working order. Guaranteed Liquid Measure Visible Pump used throughout the early 1920s, was often referred to as the Fry Visible Gas Pump. The most popular models of the Fry Visible Pump, named after the company founder, were the Fry Model 117 and Fry Model 17. These vintage gas pumps, with their hourglass shape, were nicknamed after the curvaceous actress of that era "Mae West". The "visible" gas pumps allowed customers to view the color and quality of the gasoline through the transparent glass fuel tank.
