Description

Gilbert & Barker Model T176: Visible Gas Pump Texaco Restoration

This museum-quality restoration features a Gilbert & Barker Model T-176, a premier 10-gallon "visible" gas pump manufactured between 1918 and the mid-1920s. As one of the most iconic pieces of early 20th-century petroliana, this hand-operated pump has been meticulously restored by ArtFactory.com to working standards. Every component, from the galvanized metal body to the internal mechanical switches, has been refurbished both inside and out to ensure it meets the highest investment-grade criteria for collectors and historians.

The pump is presented in a stunning, period-correct Texaco Sky Chief theme, highlighted by a vibrant Texaco Red finish. Authentic details include a collector-preferred milk glass pump top globe and a genuine vintage porcelain enamel belly plate sign. The central feature is the original 10-gallon clear glass cylinder, which houses the factory-correct measuring sticks and price placards, preserving the mechanical integrity and aesthetic charm of the original Springfield, Massachusetts, craftsmanship.

Beyond its striking visual appeal, this Gilbert & Barker restoration retains its original serial and model number plates, providing undisputed provenance. By combining rare original parts — such as the porcelain signage and glass tank — with industry-leading restoration techniques, this piece serves as a functional work of art. It represents a pinnacle of vintage gas station memorabilia, offering a rare opportunity to own a preserved slice of American automotive history.

Semaphore Signal -- This is an exclusive feature of G&B visible pumps and an important on to you because it secures the confidence of your customers and is looked upon favorably by sealing authorities everywhere.

Pumping Unit -- The heart of a visible pump is the pumping unit and thousands of users of these visible pumps concede that for speed of delivery, ease of opertion and long service without trouble, few pumps equal this G&B double-acting pumping unit. It delivers ten gallons with twelve and one-half strokes, and its operation is easier than most pumps. It is strongly built throughout, having driving lings and pins of hardened steel, which practically eliminate wear. A self-adjusting spring tension stuffing box through which the piston rod passes lessens the need for frequent attention at this point.

Lighting -- Bulb socket in dome cover just over bowl, lights up globe, and shines down through glass skylight into the bowl, brilliantly illuminating the gasoline.

Shell -- The pressed steel shell, ribbed for stiffness, provides ample space for displaying trade-marks and the proportions of the pump, its symmetry and dignified design combine to produce an attractive appearance.
