Description
Hood Tires Service Sign: Rare Original Vintage Neon Automobilia
This original vintage Hood Tires service sign is just one of hundreds of collectible automobilia and petroliana collectibles currently for sale from ArtFactory.com. This large, double sided, 2 part, rectangular shaped, porcelain enamel sign measures 48 inches tall, by 36 3/4 inches wide, and is 8 inches deep including the heavy metal housing can. It is an original authorized Hood Tires Service Sign Tire and Tube dealer advertisement from the 1940's, and features the iconic Hood Tires, Red Man Mascot saluting. This sign has a black background with a white arrow in the center that reads "HOOD" in red lettering over the arrow. Below it reads "TIRES" in white lettering. The graphic of the Red Man is above the arrow. Th sign lights up in white neon around the border, and also has a white neon arrow that goes through the center of the larger arrow graphic horizontally. The word "HOOD" lights up in light blue neon, as does the word "TIRES". The upper section of the sign has a yellow neon arrow that lights up and points in both directions, with the word "SERVICE" in the center of the arrow written in light blue neon.
Like all of our collectible signs, this vintage Hood Tires service sign is sold in original, unrestored condition as pictured. We do not believe in restoring old signs because it is our belief that every ding, dent, and blemish is part of the story and history of the item. This sign certainly shows its age, and both sides of the sign have a fair share of dings and dents throughout the sign face. This sign was almost certainly displayed outdoors for many years as there appears to be evidence of damage from the sign being struck by wind blown objects. The graphics and lettering on the sign all remain clean and readable, making it a great example of this now over 80-year-old item. This vintage Hood Tires service sign grades in Very Good/Good (VG/G) condition overall. The only exception to this rule is the 101 point, museum quality neon, and electrical restoration, which is done under the supervision of, certified, and signed by award winning artist H.J. Nick as meeting all world class fine are qualifications. This certification means each item bearing his signature is backed by over 100 years of manufacturing world class fine art handmade furnishings, and restoring America's finest collectibles to original, museum quality condition.
