Vintage Neon Ford Dealership Sign: With Wings Original 1940's
This vintage Ford Dealership neon sign is an original porcelain enamel, storefront sign, from the 1940's. It is a single sided, working neon sign with a porcelain sign face, and is in excellent condition for a sign of its age. The sign features Ford's iconic blue oval logo with neon lettering, and rare lighted Art Deco wings. These signs were used by Ford dealerships as a storefront advertisement for their car lots to passersby on the road. This vintage neon sign an example of historic automobile signage from "The Golden Age" of the American open road. It is perfect for display in any man cave, game room, or automotive business. This iconic sign is of collection centerpiece size, it is oblong in shape, measuring 10 feet wide (including wings) by 5 feet 2 inches tall (at its widest and tallest points), and is on an 12 inch deep heavy metal electrical housing can. This vintage neon Ford dealership sign is a true American icon, and among the most famous and popular automobilia signs among collectors.
Like all of our collectible signs, this vintage neon Ford dealership sign is sold in original, unrestored condition as pictured. This sign has fairly significant chipping and damage to the enamel on the sign face, especially in the upper left corner area, which is extremely common in signs that were displayed outdoors, and would commonly be struck by wind blown items during storms. Furthermore, there is no correct way to add new porcelain in a manor that would be consistent with a full museum quality restoration, and attempts at these types of restorations are generally frowned upon in the collector community. We do not believe in restoring old signs because it is our belief that every ding, dent, and blemish is part of the story and history of the item (a belief that is consistent with the majority of the collector community). Outside of the chipping to the porcelain enamel, the signs is in excellent condition overall for what is a now 80-year-old item.

While the sign itself has been left in fully original condition, the electrical and neon components have received a 101 point, museum quality restoration. This neon restoration is done under the supervision of award winning artist H.J. Nick, and has received his brass tag signature certification. This certification means each item bearing his signature is backed by over 100 years of manufacturing world class fine art handmade furnishings, and restoring America's finest collectibles to original, museum quality condition, and meeting all world class fine art standards. All is neon restored by our in house glass blowers, who have blown new glass using the same techniques and materials that were used for the original neon. Also, any electrical parts including wiring, mounts and solid state transformers have been replaced. The neon features a separate on/off toggle pull cord as pictured.
