Indian Motorcycles Flange Sign: Genuine Vintage Porcelain, Double Sided
This is a rare, original, double sided, vintage Indian Motorcycles flange sign. It is a thick, heavy porcelain enamel advertisement that measures 20 inches wide by 12 inches tall, one a 2 1/2 inch metal flange. It was used as advertising at authorized Indian Motorcycle dealerships in the mid-twentieth century. This is an original sign from the 1940's. It has a primarily yellow background with a red outline around the border. The word "Indian" is in red lettering with a black outline, all other lettering and logos on the sign are black. Like all of our signs, it is in original, unrestored condition. As can be see in the pictures, this sign shows some wear with a number of minor dings and chipping on both sides, but is in excellent condition overall for an 80-year-old sign. We believe in keeping signs in unrestored condition, because it is our belief blemishes are part of the unique history and help to tell the story of that sign.

Indian Motorcycles Company History
Indian Motorcycle is an American brand of motorcycles originally produced from 1901 to 1953 in Springfield, Massachusetts, United States. Hendee Manufacturing Company initially produced the motorcycles, but the name was changed to the Indian Motocycle Manufacturing Company in 1923.
The Indian Motorcycle factory team took the first three places in the 1911 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy. During the 1910s, Indian Motorcycle became the largest manufacturer of motorcycles in the world. Indian Motorcycle's most popular models were the Scout, made from 1920 to 1946, and the Chief, made from 1922 until 1953, when the Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company went bankrupt. Various organizations tried to perpetuate the Indian Motorcycle brand name in subsequent years, with limited success.
