Standard Oil Neon Sign: Vintage Porcelain Petroliana Torch Logo
This vintage Standard Oil neon sign is an original gas station advertisement from the 1930's. This sign is a rare, oblong, heavy porcelain enamel sign with a die cut torch flame at the top. It has a red, then white, then blue background with the word "STANDARD" in lettering. In the center is a torch logo with the flame extending above the top edge of the sign. It is an extra large, single sided sign that measures 59 inches at its widest point by 55 inches at its tallest point by 5 1/4 inches deep including the heavy metal housing can (Total Weight 81 Pounds). The housing can has been fully rebuilt for both indoor or outdoor use. It is of a size that is large enough to be a collection centerpiece, even for the most serious Standard Oil collection. This, and all advertising signs from Standard Oil are highly collector coveted.
Like all of our collectible signs, this vintage Standard Oil neon sign is sold in original, unrestored condition, as pictured. We do not believe in restoring old signs because it is our belief that every ding, dent, and blemish is part of the story and history of the item. The porcelain enamel sign is in Excellent Plus (Exl+) condition overall, and is as clean of an example of this now over 90-year-old sign, as you will find for sale. With only a few VERY small chips to the porcelain on the sign face, many would grade this sign as Near Mint, but we always round down a grade if its close. Any blemishes, which are few to begin with are extremely minor, and barely visible. There are no large dings from wind blown objects, meaning this sign was never displayed outdoors. The only exception is the 101 point, museum quality neon restoration, which is done under the supervision of, certified, and signed by award winning artist H.J. Nick as meeting all world class fine are qualifications.This certification means each item bearing his signature is backed by over 100 years of manufacturing world class fine art handmade furnishings, and restoring America's finest collectibles to original, museum quality condition.
