The Royal Tailors Sign: Rare 1920's Porcelain Clothing Advertising
This original vintage The Royal Tailors sign is just one of hundreds of Americana and general store collectible signs currently for sale from ArtFactory.com. The Royal Tailors were a popular retail clothing manufacture in the early Twentieth Century. This double sided, horizontally oriented, rectangular shaped, porcelain flange sign measures 21 1/4 inches wide by 9 7/8 inches tall and has a 1 5/8 inch flange. It has a white background at the top and navy blue background at the bottom. The top of the sign has a graphic of a tiger against the white background. The bottom of the sign reads "Authorized Resident Dealer" in navy blue lettering in the white background area just below the tiger. The navy blue background area reads "The Royal Tailors/Chicago - New York" in white lettering. This is an original early 1920's railroad sign, and it is sold in original, unrestored condition, as pictured. We sell all of our original collectible advertising in unrestored condition because it is our belief that each blemish is part of the unique history of that item.

This vintage The Royal Tailors sign has a significant amount of wear on both sides, but side 1 is in significantly better condition than side 2. It is in Good/VeryGood (G/VG) condition overall on side 1, and in Fair (F) condition on side 2. Side 1 of the sign has fairly clean and readable letters and graphics overall, but there is quite a bit of chipping, pitting, and scuffs throughout the sign face. There is also a large rust spot down the middle. Side 2 is in much lesser condition as the wear and pitting have left the graphics and lettering faded to the point that they are not easily readable. However, even in this condition, due to the age and scarcity of this piece, this is still one of the better examples of this now nearly 100-year-old sign that you will find for sale on the market.
