Vintage Indian Gas Sign: Rare Original Sign With Restored Neon
This vintage Indian Gas sign is an original gas station advertisement from the 1930's, and is an original condition, porcelain enamel sign with fully restored neon and electrical. This sign is a rare, die cut, heavy porcelain enamel sign with a die cut round dot at the top of an otherwise rectangular sign. It has a blue background with the words "INDIAN GAS" in large white lettering in the upper center are of the sign, with the word "GAS" towards the lower right corner. There is a red bullseye style dot at the top of the sign above the main rectangular area, as pictured. To the left of the word "GAS", it reads "INDIAN REFINING CO. INCORPORATED" in smaller red lettering. The sign lights up with blue neon around the border of the sign, the full way around. It lights up with white neon around the outer border of the red dot, and around the lettering of the words "Indian Gas", and in red neon around the inner border of the red dot. It is an extra large, single sided sign that measures 44 inches at its widest point by 37 inches at its tallest point by 5 inches deep including the heavy metal housing can (Total Weight 58 Pounds). The housing can has been fully rebuilt for both indoor or outdoor use. It is of a size that is large enough to be a collection centerpiece, even for the most serious petroliana collector, while still being small enough to fit in a standard size area.
Like all of our collectible signs, this vintage Indian Gas sign is sold in original, unrestored condition, as pictured. We do not believe in restoring old signs because it is our belief that every ding, dent, and blemish is part of the story and history of the item. The porcelain enamel sign is in Excellent/Very Good (Exl/VG) condition overall, and is as clean of an example of this now over 90-year-old sign, as you will find for sale. The sign face is quite clean overall, with the exception of a few areas, the most notable being in the lower, left area of the sign, near the red lettering. There are a total of 7 moderate sized dings in this area, a set of 3 dings near the right side of the red lettering, and a series of 4 dings to the right of the red lettering. However, with the exception of these dings, and one more smaller ding in the lower left corner of the red dot area, the sign is free of any other visible damage, and does not even have much
