Vintage Neon Mobil Pegasus Sign: Large Roadside Advertisement
This is a rare, original, vintage neon Mobil Pegasus sign for Standard Oil Socony-Vacuum Oil company from the 1950's that is currently for sale from ArtFactory.com. This vintage sign is a die cut flying horse Mobil sign with new neon lighting. The left facing Mobil Pegasus gas sign is red with white details. This extra large sign is 9 feet (108 inches) wide by 7 feet (84 inches) tall, and is 4 inches deep including the metal housing can. This is authentic roadside advertising that was used at Mobil Gas Stations, and was manufactured in the 1950's. This vintage neon Mobil Pegasus sign is in excellent condition as pictured, and is an American iconic artifact from the open road. These Pegasus signs are far more rare than ones that have the flying wing border only. Furthermore, this type of Pegasus sign was only used on the Mobil Stations that were owned by the Mobil Corporation, and often had large billboards in back behind, and at the top corner, this Pegasus would be and service line is neon, (about twice more than the bar style signs).
We do not believe in restoring old signs because it is our belief that every ding, dent, and blemish is part of the story and history of the item. This sign is in Excellent (EXL) condition overall, but does have a few of the dings from wind blown objects that are commonly seen on these signs. However, two medium sized dings, one on the tail of the horse, and another in the lower chest area of the horse are the only significant blemishes to the porcelain. Like all of our collectible signs, this large roadside, vintage neon Mobil Pegasus sign is sold in original, unrestored condition as pictured. The only exception being the 101 point, museum quality neon restoration, which is done under the supervision of, certified, and signed by award winning artist H.J. Nick as meeting all world class fine are qualifications. This certification means each item bearing his signature is backed by over 100 years of manufacturing world class fine art handmade furnishings, and restoring America's finest collectibles to original, museum quality condition. All neon restored by our in house glass blowers, who have blown new glass using the same techniques and materials that were used for the original neon. Also, any electrical parts including wiring and solid state transformers have been replaced. The neon features a separate on/off toggle pull cord as pictured.
