Vintage Reddy Kilowatt Neon Sign: Utah Power & Light Co.
This rare, vintage Reddy Kilowatt neon sign, for the Utah Power and Light Company; is an original collectible power company advertisement for Kyune, Utah Substation. This classic sign is 4 feet wide by 2 feet tall in total, and is a porcelain sign with neon on a 6 inch deep metal can. It has a white background, with the Reddy Kilowatt character graphic on the left side of the sign, and Reddy Kilowatt has a red electric bolt body, with a blue outline head, hands, and feet. The right area reads "Kyune Substation, Utah Power And Light Company" in red and blue lettering. The neon lights up in white around the border of Reddy Kilowatt's head, hands, and feet, and the lettering "Utah Power & Light Co.". The electrical bolt parts of Reddy Kilowatt's body, and the words "Kyune Substation" light up in red neon. The sign lights up in white neon around the border of the sign. Electric and Power Companies used these sign for over 70 years. This one if from the 1940's-1950's era.

We do not believe in restoring old signs because it is our belief that every ding, dent, and blemish is part of the story and history of the item. The only exception being the 101 point, museum quality neon restoration, which is done under the supervision of, certified, and signed by award winning artist H.J. Nick as meeting all world class fine are qualifications. This certification means each item bearing his signature is backed by over 100 years of manufacturing world class fine art handmade furnishings, and restoring America's finest collectibles to original, museum quality condition. All neon restored by our in house glass blowers, who have blown new glass using the same techniques and materials that were used for the original neon. Also, any electrical parts including wiring and solid state transformers (and solid state flasher for the body of Reddy Kilowatt) have been replaced. The neon features a separate on/off toggle pull cord as pictured.

History Of The Reddy Kilowatt Character
Like other electric utilities of the period, APC was seeking to grow consumer demand for electrical power. Commercially viable AC generating stations had begun powering North American streets and homes by the end of the 19th century. By the mid-1920s electric utilities had succeeded in bringing electricity to virtually all major cities and towns in North America; however, rural areas remained chronically underserved. In 1930 almost 90 percent of farms in the United States were still without access to electric service. Collins was convinced that the best way to win over new customers, including frugal small business owners and skeptical farmers and rural dwellers, was to give his mostly invisible new commodity a more human face.
