7 Up Neon Sign: "The Uncola" Rare Vintage Tin Litho Advertising
This extremely rare vintage, 7 Up neon sign from the late 1960's era, is a true relic from the earliest days of 7 Up's world famous, "The Uncola" advertising campaign, which first appeared in advertising in 1968. This extra large, die cut, bottle shaped tin litho sign measures 70 inches (5 feet 10 inches) tall, by 29 inches at its widest point (the top sunburst graphic) by 14 1/2 inches wide (at the base of the bottle) and is on a 5 inch thick, heavy metal housing can. It is a single sided sign with a primarily green background in the bottle area. The bottle has a white cap, and lights up with white neon around the border of the sign, and around the border of the bottle cap. There is a square, red 7 Up logo on the neck of the bottle, and reads 7 Up vertically up the bottom of the bottle, with a trademark "red dot" logo in between the "7" and the "U". True to the "Woodstock Era", the top of the sign features a psychedelic setting sunburst graphic at the top, with the sun setting behind the bottle, an orange and yellow sunburst, clouds, and the words "The Uncola" in hippie style bubble lettering. The sign lights up in white neon around the borders of the sun, sunburst, clouds, and the words "The Uncola". Per the maker's mark, this sign was manufactured by the Stout Sign Company of St. Louis, Missouri.
Like all of our collectible signs, this rare, 7 Up neon sign is sold in original, unrestored condition as pictured. We do not believe in restoring old signs because it is our belief that every ding, dent, and blemish is part of the story and history of the item. However, this sign, is close to a near mint condition item as you will find, or its age, and as pictured, is free of any major blemishes, and the colors are bright with clean graphics and lettering. While the in sign itself is in fully original condition, all neon and electrical has been fully rebuilt, and has received our 101 point, museum quality neon restoration, which is done under the supervision of, certified, and signed by award winning artist H.J. Nick as meeting all world class fine are qualifications.
