Vintage Union 76 Neon Sign: With Fully Restored Neon/Electrical
If you are looking for an item that really has an iconic feel, this original, 1940's era, vintage Union 76 neon sign, which measures nearly 4 and a half feet tall, is just such an item. The single sided, vertically oriented, rectangular sign, measures 52 1/2 inches tall, by 40 inches wide, and is 5 inches deep, with electrical components and transformers housed inside the sign's metal housing can. It is a genuine porcelain enamel sign with an orange background, with blue stripes across the top and bottom. There is a large blue "76" with a white border in the center of the sign. This sign lights up in light blue neon across the top and bottom stripes on the sign, and also around the border of the "76". This vintage Union 76 neon sign is a true American icon, and among the most famous and popular gas station roadside signs among petroliana enthusiasts.
Like all of our collectible signs, this vintage Union 76 neon sign is sold in original, unrestored condition as pictured. This sign has a few (about 5) small dings to the enamel on the sign face, but otherwise is in clean condition, and is an exceptional example of a sign this age. We do not believe in restoring damage to porcelain signs because it is our belief, and the prevailing belief among collectors that this type of wear is part of that item's story. It also DOES NOT HAVE any of type of damage from being struck by wind blown items during storms is extremely common in signs that were displayed outdoors. Other than these small dings, the sign is free of damage, has clean lettering, and most importantly is free of rust. The sign overall is in Excellent (Exl) condition, which is a rare find in itself, and is as clean of an example of this now 80-year-old sign that you will find, that was actually used.
