Vintage Signal Gasoline Sign: 12" Porcelain Gas Pump Belly Plate
This vintage Signal Gasoline sign is an original porcelain, gas pump belly plate advertisement from the 1940's. This sign is round in shape, has a black background with a red outline border, and reads "SIGNAL GASOLINE" in yellow lettering, and has a traffic Signal Logo (set to "GO") in the center of the sign that is surrounded by a thin red circle. It is a single sided sign that measures 12 inches in diameter, and is a 4 color sign with black, white, yellow, and red. It is an ideal size for display as it is large enough to be eye catching, but small enough to not take up too much of your wall space. It is in original, unrestored condition and although it has some very light wear (mostly on the back), it is in excellent condition for an over 70-year-old item. We sell all of our original petroliana advertising in unrestored condition because it is our belief that each blemish is part of the unique history of that item.

Signal Gasoline (Allied/Honeywell) Company History
AlliedSignal was an American aerospace, automotive and engineering company created through the 1985 merger of Allied Corp. and Signal Companies. It subsequently purchased Honeywell for $14.8 billion in 1999, who thereafter adopted the Honeywell name and identity. AlliedSignal was a member of the Dow Jones Industrial Average from 1985 until February 19, 2008.
The Signal Companies traced their history to the Signal Gasoline company, founded by Samuel B. Mosher in 1922. It renamed itself to Signal Gas & Oil in 1928 to reflect its expanding businesses; by the 1950s, Signal was the largest independent oil company on the West Coast of the United States and Mosher held large stakes in American President Lines and Flying Tiger Line. In 1964, Signal merged with the Garrett Corporation, an aerospace company, and the combined company adopted "The Signal Companies" as its corporate name in 1968.
The merger of Allied and Signal made aerospace the new company's largest business sector. The combined company adopted the name Allied-Signal on September 19, 1985. It dropped the hyphen to become AlliedSignal in 1993 to reinforce a one-company image and signify the full integration of all of its businesses. On June 7, 1999, AlliedSignal acquired Honeywell for $14.8 billion and took its more recognizable name.
